In the corporate world, employees leaving a job are asked to sit through a sometimes grueling "exit interview" about their time at the company. Although that concept doesn't exist for Broadway performers, we think it's fun to check in with stars as they finish up a successful run. Below, Nice Work If You Can Get It star Kelli O’Hara, who plays her final performance as rough and tough bootlegger Billie Bendix on March 24, looks back the friends she made (including Broadway.com Audience Choice Award winner Matthew Broderick!) while starring in the hit Gershwin tuner.
How did you feel when you first got the job?
I was excited for a new and different adventure.
How do you feel now that you’re leaving?
I will miss the show and all the amazing people here, but my growing belly [O'Hara recently announced she is pregnant] is begging me to be finished.
Which three words you would use to describe your experience?
Lots of laughs. [Here's an example!]
What was the easiest thing about this job?
The cast.
What was the hardest thing?
The schedule.
What was the highlight of your time at this job?
Meeting my new dresser, Fran.
What skills are required for future applicants?
Flexibility, laughter, energy.
What advice would you give to future employees in your position?
Don't take yourself too seriously.
How do you think you’ve grown during your time at this job?
I've learned to let go more and be in the present.
Why are you leaving this position?
I'm having a baby and I'm going to work on Far From Heaven.
What will you miss the most?
My good friends led by the sweet and loyal Matthew Broderick.
